ECG Holter Monitor

If you have experienced symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness, fainting, chest pain or shortness of breath and a routine resting 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) examination has not identified a problem, your doctor may ask you to complete an ECG Holter monitor test.

This test monitors your heart rhythm over 24, 48 or 72 hours, or five or seven days. The monitor is about the size of a mobile phone and you will need to wear it around your waist or carry it in your pocket.

You do not need to stay in the clinic and you can continue with your normal daily activities during the test. When you return the monitor to the clinic, a cardiac physiologist will analyze the data and produce a report for your doctor.

The test will provide your doctor with much more information about your heart rhythm on which to base any medical decisions about your health.
